• THIRSK HALL

It was lovely to be back at Thirsk Hall, where the whole let’s do a Halloween ghost story started — early in 2023 they asked if we could put one on and we said yes without really thinking about it. Cue, panic…out of which The Room Upstairs was born — inspired by stories of hauntings at Thirsk Hall itself. Sadly, the Hall is no longer going to do events, but it was great to end them on a high. • BURTON CONSTABLE

We did two nights at Burton Constable — another haunted house! Each time we go, they take the audience round the house, telling stories of all the strange and inexplicable goings on. In the past, we have found the acoustic a little echo-y, but we took a stage with us this time and it greatly improved things. The second night, especially, went well despite me having a nightmare with the sound. I thought I hadn’t triggered a cue and ended up pressing the wrong button several times which triggered every sound cue to play simultaneously! By great good fortune, it… Read more

  • BIRDSALL HOUSE

Birdsall House is absolutely stunning; full of surprises, delights and ghosts! Several of whom have reportedly roamed the corridors for generations — some friendly, some less so. The house is owned and run by an extremely warm, enterprising and dynamic family. This was our third production there and it was a joy to perform in such a special setting. The audience was sharp as a pin, not missing a single trick or reference and, at times, said they hardly dared to breath. Florrie’s jumper was much admired too! Read more

  • OPENING NIGHT

This is a belated catch up on the Blindfold tour so far. We opened at the wonderful Helmsley Arts Centre. It really is a very special place, and I was lucky enough to be involved in its creation many moons ago. The acoustics and sightlines are perfect, and the stage has such a homely feel. The HAC team are so welcoming. With a lovely audience, this was a great start to the tour. Read more

  • YORK

Boy, a tough run-up to opening in York to a four show sell out. Cal was hit by food poisoning and so the rehearsal period was decimated. How Cal and the cast made it to opening night was a minor miracle, but they have been incredible. It is so complicated having to learn each other’s parts. The first night’s second act had a slight miss-step, but the recovery was brilliant. Friday was a joy, followed by a lovely Q&A, and two more great audiences on Saturday. Thank you, York Theatre Royal! Check out more pictures on YTR’s Instagram here. Read more
